Rick van der Made
Born in Breda in Noord-Brabant province in the south of Holland. In 1986, Rick started studying French and English. He has been a teacher and done a number of other jobs. While working, he completed a part-time course in pedagogics. He was a teacher of Pedagogics and Philosophy at a high school in the Netherlands for five years, before taking over Hotel Freeland from his uncle Antonie van der Made, together with Pascale. Rick is in charge of logistics, cleaning and reservations administration, so you will often see him peering at the computer. But his work for the hotel is never at the expense of his friendly outlook on life, typical of the people of Brabant, which tends to rub off on his guests. This isn’t so difficult in the hotel, as Rick is fluent in a number of languages and lived in France and England for many years. He is a wealth of information about Amsterdam’s nightlife and its gay scene and he has a special interest in this famous city and its long history.
